More about the campsite
Campsite River is a small-scale and quiet camping facility with about 40 spaces. The daily life at the camping revolves around the lively bar and its terrace. Here, you can enjoy nice food and drinks with a wonderful view on the Ubaye river. Furthermore, it is possible to order bread and buns at the bar for the following morning. The terrace has a Wifi-connection, so you can always update your Facebook. Note, however, that due to the campsite’s location at a height of 935 metres, the internet reach is limited.
River is highly suitable for nature and sports lovers. The area offers plenty of facilities for rafting, mountain biking, horse riding, sky-gliding and abseiling. Looking for a day trip? At about 10 minutes from the campsite you can find Barcelonnette, a small town with a Mexican history. Barcelonnette is a pleasant and lively town where there are many things to do. It has intimate terraces, nice small restaurants, and shopping streets with fashionable boutiques. There are also several (music) festivals.
Two Villatents at the River Campsite
Campsite River has two fully decorated Villatents Luxe that can accommodate a maximum of six persons. (27 and 28 on the map) The tents have two sleeping rooms, one with a double bed and one with two bunk beds. The rooms are separated by a canvas. Cars are not allowed; they have to be parked outside the campsite.
Ubaye River
The Campsite is situated at the shore of the Ubaye river, a fast flowing mountain river highly suitable for rafting, but not for swimming. For those who want to swim, there is a pond at the campsite with a small boat that can be used by everyone. Beside the pond, there are a mini sand beach and a playground for the children. In addition, there is a small but heated outdoor swimming pool.
The climate
This area has a lovely Mediterranean climate with about 300 days of sun each year. Because of the campsite’s high location, it is almost never too hot during the day, while the river provides a refreshing breeze. Beware, however, that in the mountains the temperature can decrease to 10 up to 15 degrees during the evening and night. So make sure to bring sufficient warm clothes.
