A charming and spacious villa in the Umbria region, Villa Collombroso is a private retreat surrounded by forests and fields. The villa dates back 400 years and has been beautifully restored into a comfortable holiday home, with a very pretty well maintained garden. The village of Porano is only 4 km away and guests also have easy access to the historic city of Orvieto. There are several terraces at the villa, a large one on a lower level with access to the garden and pool area – a great place to enjoy the sunshine. There are two other: a cosy one with sofa and chairs with an umbrella, and a sheltered terrace with dining table next to the modern kitchen to have al fresco dinners and enjoy food and drinks together. This terrace also features a barbeque. Privacy is created in the garden by lush green hedges. Ground Floor The entrance hall doubles as a lounge area, with a sofa, armchairs, a piano and a decorative fireplace. The floors are made of terracotta and the ceiling has exposed wooden beams. There are also two bedrooms on this floor, one containing twin beds with cushioned headboards and a window which looks out onto the lower garden. A second bedroom has a double bed and is brightly lit by a large window. The open-plan kitchen diner is very spacious, with lots of storage, work surfaces and appliances. The high ceilings feature exposed wooden ceiling beams, and the large windows boast excellent views of the fields and vineyards. The modern kitchen area is topped with white marble, while the dining table is fashioned from wood. This area has direct access to the terraces via a set of French doors. There is a second dining table in the lounge, which also has a set of comfortable sofas, another decorative fireplace and a TV. Paintings are mounted on the stone walls, there is a small library and access to the garden via the French doors. Lower Ground Floor All bedrooms at Villa Collombroso have a wardrobe and an en-suite bathroom. The lower ground floor consists two double bedrooms, both with cushioned headboards, ample floor-space and access to the garden via French doors. First Floor A sliding door separates the staircase from the lounge area, which includes a desk, a sofa, a chaise-longue and a window looking out onto the garden. A set of stairs lead to the final bedroom, set on a mezzanine level and brightly lit by three windows. This room contains a double bed with cushioned headboard and another chaise-longue. We were charmed almost instantly. Its interior is spacious, but still with lots of character and the gardens are neat without ever looking or feeling artificial. Instead, it’s a lush and varied area of land with stretches of lawn, patio, hedgerows and trees. A very private location, perfect for enjoying a well-earned break from the busy world. The open plan kitchen diner area is most certainly a stand-out feature. Thanks to the wide windows on all sides and the comfortable corner sofa, this a bright and welcoming reception room for a group to spend quality time together. What’s more, there’s enough space throughout the house and grounds for personal privacy as well as communal gathering. A wonderful Umbrian escape. Pool The wonderful pool of Villa Collombroso is found next to the villa, in the garden and privacy is created around the pool by a lovely hedge. A gazebo stretches across one side, furnished with a sofa and chairs. A set of Roman steps lead down into the water and sun loungers are neatly arranged around the pool. The water depth varies from 1.2 to 2.2 metres. The perimeter measures 14 by 7 metres and the pool is open from May to September, weather permitting.
